The State Operator for Non-Lethal Acquisition (DOT) has, for the first time, announced the procurement of body armor equipped with a positive buoyancy element. This applies to the standard modular configuration, now enhanced with a specialized module designed for use in aquatic environments.
This module enables the vest to function as a flotation aid when submerged, significantly reducing risks for personnel during maritime operations or missions in areas with water obstacles.
The buoyancy-equipped vests are intended for deployment by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Special Operations Forces operating in coastal and aquatic environments.
The armor comes in olive green and includes Type 2 hard armor plates made from ceramic-composite materials, offering an optimal balance between protection and weight. The procurement covers 1,500 units, with an estimated value of nearly 50 million UAH.
“The current operational environment requires individual protective equipment to offer not only high ballistic resistance but also adaptability to diverse mission conditions. The decision to integrate this module into approved body armor models is a direct response to requests from service members,” said Mykyta Chichkan, Director of DOT’s Clothing and Gear Programme.
